The MC does go through torture - without much detail, thankfully - but he uses the trauma to deal with future hardships. "The words of the Goddess" declare him a false hero, making him anathema to anyone that knows his identity. Some strong resemblance to the Shield Hero anime in the introduction, but the meat of the story takes it in a different direction. Old tropes here but the story's fresh enough to carry them well and to make you want to read further in the series. Don't expect a lot of introspection about the evils of slavery or in-depth social commentary, but for an isekai litrpg fantasy it's a decent offering in the genre, if a little shallow at times. compliment/complement) and a very male-centric fantasy approach to the protagonists' relationships (women love him, men admire him, everyone is awed by his power). A mystery for future books in the series to ponder! Isekai'ed hero is betrayed by those who summoned him.
